What Does a Health Coach Do?

When I hear the word coach, I think of my grumpy coach from high school that yelled at me and my team members. "Run Faster", "Push Harder", "GO GO GO". I promise I won't be that kind of coach.....unless I am also giving you exercise sessions.....

Anyone can give you advice or act as your motivational cheer leader. This is NOT what a health coach does. 

Instead, a health coach is a professional that:

EMPOWERS you to discover your own strength and wisdom

Gives you EDUCATION when needed so you can get on the right path

Holds you ACCOUNTABLE to your goals so you can make real changes

HELPS you create solutions to your own problems.

Making deep life long changes is not as easy as flipping a switch. Change takes time, dedication, and effort.

Working as a team, you can achieve optimal health again (or maybe for the first time). I typically work with people that have complex and multiple health conditions. It is common for me to work with client’s physicians. Health Coaching is sometimes the necessary "supplement" that can set you up for a health breakthrough. In addition, I have an extensive network of local and distance healthcare practitioners to refer clients to if they need additional help or want a new perspective.

Health Coaches are needed now more than ever. With the average doctors visit being around 15 minutes (if you are lucky) how can the vast majority of people be expected to follow through with major lifestyle changes in order to better their health and disease status? I take the time and journey with my clients through the process of change so they can reach their goals.
