What is a Medical Fitness Specialist?
The rate of people with chronic health challenges is ever growing. One of the best ways to combat most disease is lifestyle modification and appropriate exercise. These are life-changing interventions! Medical fitness specialists (MFS) are highly trained professionals that have the knowledge and tools to work with people that suffer from health challenges ranging from back pain to high blood pressure. Extensive knowledge and experience is needed to keep people safe on their road back to better health. MFS provide this type of exercise programming and coaching.
Do you work with people without injuries? Can you help clients lose weight, gain strength, or train for sporting events?
Yes! I have been a professional trainer for almost a decade. In addition to being a trainer and medical fitness specialist I am also a health coach. I greatly enjoy working with clients on any health and fitness goals. I have experience helping athletes reach new levels of fitness, mothers losing baby weight, police officers/ fire fighters becoming more resilient and much more.
How often do I need to have sessions with a trainer to get results?
Many of my clients see me at least one time a week. Working with a client (individual sessions) once a week is typically enough to produce great results if a client is moderately motivated most weeks (motivation can change from week to week). Highly motivated clients have been successful training as little as two times a month. People who want faster progression, have motivation issues, or that know they do better with multiple workouts will meet with me 2-3 times a week for solo sessions. However, most of my clients enjoy additional workouts (in addition to a solo session) with me through small and large group training on a weekly basis.
What is the benefit to working with a trainer at a studio instead of getting a gym membership?
People buy gym memberships because they want results. Sadly the large majority of gym-goers do NOT get the results they want. Habit change is the key to actually getting results, as is correct exercise progression and programming (this is especially important if you have chronic health issues). If you want a true transformation, you need a coach.
Achievement, hitting your goals, and being challenged by a trainer is how you change your life. How many Olympians, athletes, sports teams, musicians, professors, etc do you know that have had any great success without the help of a teacher, coach, or trainer? Imagine the person who stands up at an award ceremony and thanks only themselves. That is just not reality.
Should I wait to start training until I am in “better shape”?
Short answer: no. This is a common mistake that people make and can leave people stuck for weeks, months, and even years. Come as you are and get on the best path as soon as possible.
I am confused about what kind of sessions I need. Where do I start?
I am more than happy to talk with people about what kind of sessions they need based on their goals, health status, and budget. Everyone deserves the best kind of care and training based on their life circumstance.
Am I able to workout at the studio WITHOUT a trainer?
Not currently. Many clients come early or stay late after their sessions if they want more time to stretch or work on something (like corrective exercise.
How do client accounts or session credits work when doing different sessions at different prices?
My client account system is pretty easy. Clients pay in a certain amount of money and each time they have a session their session amount is deducted. Let’s say a client pays in $200. If they met with me for a small group with 4 people, they would have $28 subtracted from their account. If next week they did 2 large group sessions, they would have $13 subtracted from their account twice (for both large group classes). This system works best for clients that use multiple types of sessions.
Can I just pay exact amounts for sessions?
Yes. I have some clients that pay for a number of one-on-one sessions and only use those. Many people that do this sign up for 10 or 20 one-on-one sessions.
Do you have a late cancellation policy?
I ask that clients let me know 24 hrs in advanced if they need to cancel. I charge a $20 no show fee if people can not make it. Chronic offenders can be charged for full session cost. This policy is not black and white as I realize life happens.
Can medical fitness specialists bill insurance?
Currently, no state allows trainers of any level to bill insurance. This also applies to health savings accounts.
